Ingrid Betancourt and 14 others – including three American contractors – have been freed in Colombia. Betancourt was kidnapped by FARC in 2002 when she was running for president. It is said that the 15 hostages were freed following operations by the Colombian military, but details – including on the conditions of the ex-hostages – have yet to be released. Betancourt has been one of the most high profile of the 700+ hostages held in Colombia. This very happy news must come as a great relief for her and the others’ families, whose anguish has gone on for years.
