Sadly, kidnapping remains an ongoing threat to journalists around the world. In recent years, the numbers of journalists taken hostage has surged, particularly in high conflict areas such as Iraq, Pakistan and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Several of these journalists have even lost their lives.
The Committee for the Protection of Journalists has noted that among journalists who have died in the line of duty, the majority were not victims of accidental cross-fire, but deliberately murdered or targeted as the result of their work. On this day, let us call for an end to all forms of violence against journalists.
